Good-Bye Litter
Giving back to the school and community is a good thing, right? MI-861 continued to follow the Air Force Core Value of Service Before Self at Garden City High School. On Thursday May 3rd MI-861 was happy to participate in another community service event. A senior project led this year by Senior Cameron Cussen is an annual event called Good Bye Litter.
Cadet Challenge Competition
On Saturday April 28th 16 cadets participated in a Cadet Challenge event hosted by Southgate Anderson High School. Led by the team Captain, C/A1C Andrew Wasson, the team was ready to compete. There were two teams per school, a varsity team and a Junior Varsity First Year team. A total of ten JROTC units from across the state attended as well. Like all the other units, MI-861 was assigned a set order for the five cadet challenge events.
Scavenger Hunt
On Friday April 27 cadets participated in MI-861's First Annual Scavenger Hunt. The Cadets were split up into groups of four and sent aroung Garden City searching for answers to the clues they were given. The cadets that found the most answers that were correct recieved a special prize.
Flag Retiring Ceremony
On Wednesday 25 April 2012 the Garden City High School Air Force Junior ROTC Program hosted its very first Flag Retiring Ceremony. When the flag of the United States becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be "retired" with all the dignity and respect toward our nation's flag.
Adopt-A-Highway
Serving your community is a good and fun thing for the AFJROTC cadets of Garden City High School. On April 20th, a group of cadets gathered after school for the spring Adopt-A-Highway. The cadets gathered in the AFJROTC room after school and watched a short safety video to brief them on proper procedures for Adopt A Highway.
Easter Egg Hunt
On Friday April 6th, The Kitty Hawk Air Society hosted its first ever Egg Hunt at Lathers (Pre-School and Kindergarten) Elementary. Cadets led by C/SSgt Hunter prepared eggs filled with candy prior to the actual event. Several members from KHAS participated leaving eggs scattered around the play-ground for the children to find. And no Easter egg hunt would be complete without the arrival of the Easter Bunny..
